Stop ‘n Cafe – Greek Cuisine, Santa Monica, California Review

We headed down to Santa Monica for an amazing day in the sun, a stroll along 3rd Street Promenade and of course a look at beach life in Santa Monica. And, what a beach!
As we turned onto the Promenade we couldn’t miss the big “Greek Cuisine” sign. We couldn’t actually see the name of the restaurant but we were in the mood for some great greek food. So, we stopped in. Here’s what we found:

Food – Breakfast – 5 stars

The food was great. We had the Greek Omelet, which has onions and feta cheese inside. The eggs were perfect and the onion and cheese mixture was tasty. The plate came with a side of fruit and potatoes. They didn’t charge extra for the fruit. So, the meal was the perfect size.

The coffee was greek! Yes, they do serve greek coffee and they know how to prepare it properly. Be mindful not to drink the sediment.

Lemonade – a bit too much sugar for me but still refreshing for others on the team.

As an aside, the breakfast menu was not particularly a greek menu but their were items that were available that had a greek flair to them. We commend the owners for offering a bit of both. We feel it allows a larger market to enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Service – Owners 5 stars and Waitress 3 stars

Here we wanted to be clear to let our readers know that the owners were great. They really cared and paid attention to their customers. Stop ‘n Cafe is after all a family run greek restaurant.

The waitress (not the one in the photo) on the other hand was not so helpful. There were very few people in the restaurant and although she was pleasant, she really didn’t seem to interested in going the extra mile. Our waitress was not the waitress in the photo.

We still left 16% tip but we couldn’t bring ourselves to round it to $40.00. The waitress had the nerve to comment aloud. We loved it! This is a great lesson for restaurant owners. In this economy, your customers are too valuable to have your staff offend any of them. So, educate your staff on how to handle your customers and if they don’t follow your instructions apologize to your customers and get new staff! Education is also an ongoing effort (daily if you can).

Price – Breakfast- Affordable 4 stars

We felt that the prices for breakfast were fantastic especially for the amount of food that was served. Greek coffee for $2.50 is a steel when you compare it to an espresso at Starbucks.

Atmosphere – 5 stars

What a great little restaurant. The walls are covered with black and white photos of hollywood stars from various timeframes. The tables are a cherry wood color with white table clothes and the dark brown colored lights are slightly dimmed for a warm cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is narrow and deep. The kitchen, bar and bathrooms are at the back. There is a patio enough for approximately 20 people and inside seats about another 50 people. Be sure to make a reservation on a busy night. We’re quite sure they get busy.

Location 5 stars

Being on 3rd Street Promenade is great for a little restaurant like this. There’s lots of parking close by and there’s ample enough space to walk around in after your meal.

Website and Social Networking- 2 stars

Unfortunately, the website has no email address where we could contact the owners and share our thoughts with them. So, we either have to snail mail them a letter (which we’ll do) or give them a call. So, if you’re going to make reservations, it’s by phone and not online. They do have a facebook, twitter and chrome logo on their website but they didn’t seem to go anywhere – maybe they’re still under development. We also didn’t see any pictures of the owners on the site. When we see pictures of the owners we know that they’re interested in getting our feedback. So, we’re not so sure if that’s the case here. We’ll be sure to let you know.

First, keep up the good work.

Staff

Be sure to have morning meetings with your staff to get them focused on your customers. You’re the boss don’t let their attitudes get in the way of your customers. You’ve worked too hard to let them lose customers for you. We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to focus on your guests.

Website

Let’s focus a bit more on the internet. We need your links to work to facebook, twitter and an email would be nice.

Pictures

We’d love to see who you are. It tells us that you care about what we have to say.

Overall, 90% rating. This is a great place to relax and enjoy breakfast. We’ll be back at night to let you know how we fair.
